This ensemble is the product of the coming toghether of
musicians who have already collaboureted in variety of the other
situations. Some of them have already worked with the band leader in an
important chapter of this artistic history, which lid to the release of CD "SUITE & SONGS",which has attracted the interest of critics in Italy and abroad.
In the light of this common experience it was decided to create a Group to
continue and develop these ideas with, where appropriate, new expressive and
stylistic aspects. As well as material from the CD "SUITE & SONGS" the Group offers a repertoire of original compositions,in the
which the improvised elements are of fundamental importance, even though firmily
placed in the context of predeterminated arrangements. The latest Sebastiani’s work with this
combo,“ DESIDERIO “ ( 2003 ), show a new step
oriented in the afroamerican
language as wrote the Jazz Magazine “ Cadence “(June 2004) :
< Marcello Sebastiani’s group is made of harder stuff and sails into
realms of American Jazz. The set contains the standard “ Like Someone In
Love “, composition of James Williams and Roland Kirk and a Sebastiani
original dedicated to Ray Brown. Sebastiani’s bass is often lowdown and
greasy and the use of Geoff Warren’s
soprano as the main of horn gives this session an airy, light feel. Warren
switches to flute on Williams “Alter Ego” for an even breezier Oriental sound, and,on
“Station 888 “, he gets to
show his improvising prowess on crinkly bebop line. Pianist Giovanni
Ceccarelli stretches out on a trio version of “ Like Someone in
Love” showing an ebullient style
and Kirk’s classic “ The Inflated Tear” has all four
musicians alternating formal bits of melody and abstract
pattering. There’s not much Italian flavor to this one but it’s a
good example of Jazz’s value as a universal language [ Jerome Wilson ]>
